How I would remake Security Breach + Ruin DLC predictions
It’s no hot take in saying Five Nights at Freddy’s Security Breach was… not good. And with the upcoming release I’ve always thought about how I would make it differently. To start, lets talk about the characters.
First of all, Gregory. Gregory is an interesting new character in Security Breach. I think introducing a new protagonist is a great idea however I believe that he should have no relation to previous characters in the franchise. If he was related, we would have a similar issue that we did with the return of William through the form of a virus - there is no new characters and storylines taking the spotlight. The revival of William’s physical form was a major mistake in Security Breach - it took away the spotlight of Vanny, the new villain in this new age of FNAF and we were left with no explanation to how or why.
Next character is Vanny/Vanessa. The community realised and worked out that Vanny and Vanessa were going to be the same person. Seeing this, Steel Wool threw in a curveball attempting to redirect our thoughts to a different outcome. In the fire ending, Vanny is knocked off the Pizzaplex and dies. But the camera pans up to show Vanessa in her security uniform watching. I, alongside others, wrote this off as a metaphor for Vanessa’s mind/spirit still being corrupted and trapped by Glitchtrap but theorists are now trying to make the connection that Vanny has a twin sister. This leads me on to my hope for the Ruin DLC to clear up lots of misconceptions that the community have made. Yet, I’m worried that this will not happen. Security Breach answered little to none of our questions from FNAF VR and AR but also added even more questions to an already large pile. To make it worse, the potential canonicity of the many books to the series adds to these questions even more!
Finally, before I state what I would change, we’ll mention the animatronics. Having Freddy be our protector in the game is an interesting take. I like the idea of having a buddy for a short while, but this is Five Nights at FREDDY’S, so having an animatronic who is friendly throughout and offers as a hiding place for the entire game seems a bit wrong for this franchise. In Ruin, i expect we’ll be spoken to by Gregory instead of Freddy.
So, what would i change? A lot. If Gregory is revealed to be related to the Aftons or a robot version of an Afton family member then it was definitely not made clear enough and would ruin his character (no pun intended). Freddy should have been a friend for part of the game before he is captured by Vanny and turned evil as a twist. I expected Vanny to be a much more important part of the game and we would spend the majority of the game just avoiding her. The other animatronics should’ve been kept to their own areas and turn evil as the game progresses. The mall should’ve have been reduced in size; many of the areas seem too big and you rarely are spotted by the animatronics. Due to this they added these annoying security bots that roam the entire mall. There are way too many of them and they can move very quickly. It can be difficult to get past them and their jump scares can stop the flow of the game as you are frozen for a short while. I would decrease the open areas and thus decrease the need for so many security bots.
The game needs to be slightly more linear. Sections like Daycare and Endos were great and i expect Ruin to be more like those areas. Rather than forcing the player to go from A to B while dodging a broken AI having more scripted sequences like DJ Musicman and the intro chases. Hopefully, the map is better sectioned off and shrunk in Ruin and areas are properly used. Bonnie Bowl was pointless as there was no bowling Minigame and all you could do was find the Monty Mystery Mix in the back room of the alley. Roxy Raceway had a giant racetrack that you couldn’t race on and Monty Golf had an unfinished golfing game that wasn’t necessary to complete. The Fazcam should’ve been won from a bot by beating him in Monty Golf. After this, a scripted chase by Monty back to the elevator and then go to Mazercise. Speaking of Mazercise - Just delete that whole puzzle. The buttons didn’t work and it is never explained how the maze actually changes (from a technical standpoint).
Security Breach should’ve have used way more auto saves than physical save points, such as auto saving once collecting a key item or defeating an animatronic. After 6AM, saves 100% should still be active as players who want to get the best endings need to defeat ALL the animatronics and that is very difficult to do without dying.
My predictions for Ruin DLC:
Myself and others believe that Ruin is a trap and Gregory is not who he claims to be. Like Sister Location, I think Gregory will lead us to do what he wants, lead us to him and it will not be Gregory and we will die. It would be better for clarification’s sake if there is only one ending for Ruin, a good one, but i can see there being at least two: an ending where we follow Gregory’s instructions and die and another where we ignore him and escape.
I predict that the Vanny mask will act as a temporary safety or puzzle feature maybe letting us see the animatronics easier and secrets like Roxy’s eyes in Security Breach. But while we wear the mask, the glitchy bunny animatronic will be able to attack us.
I feel like Vanny or Vanessa will not make an appearance in the game (or at least not a significant one) - unfortunately i feel Steel Wool were unsure what to do with her character going forward and instead have cast her aside. This theory I’m not 100% confident on, but due to the teaser trailer and how under-utilised her character was in Security Breach, this could be true.

Anyways, thanks for reading and I’m now looking forward to Ruin! For Steel Wools’ and our sake, lets hope its good (and not glitchy!!!!!)
